This album tackles many subjects that still stand out even today- the decay of Mother Earth (Blackened), a corrupt justice system ( the title track), the concept of freedom ( Eye Of The Beholder), the trauma of war ( One), and a tainted upbringing ( Dyers Eve). Of course, all this makes for an interesting listen over the course of 65 minutes. Metallica's sound on this album has created a lot of controversy- its either too tinny sounding in the drum and bass sections or it has the signature Metall-crunch. If anything, it bolsters the lyrical end of the album. Case in point- the Gatling gun bass drum lick in the final verses of "One". In " To Live Is To Die", the album's instrumental, it has a unique classical vibe to it, no doubt a tribute to their original bassist, Cliff Burton. On others, such as " The Frayed Ends Of Sanity", the manic riffing of James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett give the song the overtone of someone going into madness. And Justice For All is definitely Metallica at its best. Was this review helpful? This is the Metallica that everyone says sold out? I think not this is the Metallica that die hard fans know and love but, times change MTV had alot to do with their million selling records, now this was EVERYONES favorite not just the underground FAN. Meaning the last Metallica album that didnt try to attract new fans and fail. The Black Album was great, but the Loads and St. Anger &*$#ed really bad. This is the perfect album. On a CD with 10 tracks or less, there is NEVER filler. Every song rules. It is hard to tell what the best Metallica record is. But if I had to pick one Metallica album to have for the rest of my life, it would definitely be this one. If you are looking at the reviews and are thinking about whether or not to get it, the decision is obvious. Was this review helpful? Its from back when these guys had hair and talent(which they somehow managed to lose both in the early 1990s. Metallica wont sell you one song if your cd gets banged up, they think you should replace the entire thing. Ive personally spent thousands on their music, merch., and show tickets(literally), and I am one of millions. These men are greedy, old, and lack the luster they once had, and I will not contribute one more cent to these whinebags. But if you want to, this is an excellent album to do so on. i think metallica made a really tough album so that a lot of people find it hard to cover................the only thing missing inb this album is cliff burton's bass lines..........
