This is the way the music was meant to be heard. If you have either the original or the remixed version, you should hopefully appreciate how good this album is. Many of my friends listen to nu metal and say Metallica #^!@s. When I ask them if they like Megadeth, they have no idea who Megadeth are. Thrash needs to come back. Bands like System of a Down have made thrashy music but have no guitar solos whatsoever.
Anyway, enough about how much nu metal #^!@s. This album is definitely an essential component to any TRUE metalheads collection. The first 3 songs kick off to an excellent start and have me banging my head the whole time. Five Magics is a very cool epic. Poison Was the Cure is another fast-paced thrasher. The rest of the songs are all 5 stars. This album stands right up there with Slayers Reign in Blood and Metallicas Master of puppets. If only it had came out in 1986 Megadeth would have likely surpassed Metallica. Get this album if you dont have it. Was this review helpful? Anyone who plays and appreciates metal guitar will fall in love with this album, and anyone else who is into thrash metal will as well. Merely the guitar work in "Holy Wars", "Hangar 18", and "Tornado of Souls" are amazing enough to make the album worth buying, and the rest of the material certainly isn't filler, with enough excellent riffs and solos to satisfy about any lead guitarist. Highly recommended, but an acquired taste for someone who's not into the more progressive thrash like "...And Justice for All". Was this review helpful? Not stupid and dry like Metallica, this is pure thrash metal. It brings tears to my eyes. The out-and-out speed of songs like Holy Wars and Rust In Peace and the many face-grinding solos like those of Hangar 18 and Five Magics make this album amazing. It just seems like this album was late. If it were made in like '86, Megadeth probably would have been just as successful as Metallica. But He had trouble getting started because of his drugs. Its a shame...
By the time this album came out, the world had already sold out to "... And Justice for All" and soon the black album. This is the best Megadeth album ever. My personal favorite is "Five Magics" but "Hangar 18" and "Holy Wars" were the radio hits. If it were possible, this album would get 10 stars! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 1/9/2003A review of Rust in Peace by Anonymous The best album ever produced by Megadeth. I wish dave didn't injure his arm ,even though they were getting slower............ also dave couldn't sing good in their newer album The World Needs A Hero..........But he was still a awesome guitarist Was this review helpful? The solos were well put together with careful consideration. Pretty cool to listen to and if you're a musician you could almost follow along to the fingerings. Excellent for playing the air guitar, and if you know how to read music Hangar 18 and Tornado of Souls is the most challenging to get the expression and feeling down to an art so it sounds perfect.
