Mariah has always been great with her songs. "Fantasy" and "Always be my Baby" are my Personal Favourites. I prefer this album to anyone who like Mariah's old style of incorporating more Pop than R&B. Was this review helpful? Daydream finds Mariah experimenting with all sorts of influences interlacing hip-hop with pop and her classic R&B style. In "Fantasy" Mariah produces a club hit which still goes on to this day as one of the best club songs of 1995 and 1996. "Underneath the Stars" shows Mariah's softer side with less strong vocals and just the right temper to her voice. "One Sweet Day" was Mariah's biggest single ever. It stayed at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 16 weeks, quite a big record. "Open Arms" is a classic Mariah remake of epic proportions. "Always Be My Baby" was another #1 single on the Billboard charts and Mariah's first work with Jermaine Dupri, who was later to produce such hits as "Shake it Off" and "It's Like That" from the "Emancipation of Mimi" album. "I Am Free" is a gorgeous Mariah piano ballad, that leaves you with a 'wow' in your head. "When I Saw You" is a great song that shows once again the temper of her voice. "Long Ago" is another cool bouncer with Mariah clearly at the wheel. Probably her best work on this album is "Melt Away" with notes in all of her amazing range of five octaves. "Forever" is a great song and is very tempered as well. It's too bad this never succeded as a single in the US, it was notable in Japan, though. The Daydream Interlude is Mariah's first interlude, which became album occurences through Rainbow with "Fly Away" on the Butterfly album, and the "Rainbow Interlude" and "Vulnerability" on 'Rainbow.' Mariah ends the album with "Looking In" a 'fame is not all' song.
So, in conclusion, Daydream is an essential CD even if you aren't as big of a Mariah fan as I am. It has enough musical styles interlaced that it probably took many people to decide "what the heck genre is this in?" It's certainly a keeper. Was this review helpful? Sure, she's had hits since her 1995 Daydream album but I truly believe that history will look back on Daydream as the apex of her career. The album is very well-rounded starting with the upbeat Fantasy, jumps into a dreamy "Underneath the Stars" followed by the powerfull ballad One Sweet Day. But she doesn't stop there, the keeps going with a cover of Journey's Open Arms and the classic, upbeat and tasteful Always Be My Baby. This album is so beautiful even down to the old school style Forever and the retrospective "Looking In" Ten years later, this album is as powerful, beatiful and incredible as the day I bought it in 1995. Mariah has ultimatly re-invented herself over the years and has always looks and sounds great. My favorite is album is Butterfly, it brings back so much great memories of my best friend Kevin who i lost to cancer. I love the fact that she writes her own songs , i think that makes her a true artist. I know that Mariah has been through so much and i just wanna say that i will always be a huge fan till the end. Keep it up Mariah lets " Make it trough the rain ". Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful This album by far was the best of her work. She pronounced all the words right in her songs and her voice helped alot. I myself am a singer I think that she could have worked a little harder on her tempo. The way she sang was all right its just how she sang. She should have gone faster and caught up to the beat of the song that she wrote. Anyway I think this album by far was a improvement for her career. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful My favorite song is Always Be My Baby. It has a great beat. I think Mariah is awsome. She is so beautiful. She has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. Her voice is so kind and gentle. I think she will be the most successful women in music. This album is really good. I also love her song Emotions. She is my role model. I would do anything to be like her! Anything!!***** Was this review helpful? Everyone is sick of you same old sad story. You need something new and stop complaining about how bad you had or have it. You could be an awesome singer if you didn't have so much drama in your background. Sincerely Yours, Unknown Was this review helpful?
