Posted: 7/14/2003A review of Nude by Anonymous
I think I first learned of the band Love On Ice while reading the liner notes to "Facelift" by Alice In Chains. What I liked about "Nude" is that it reminds me of a cross between Jane's Addiction & Mother Love Bone. If you ever liked those bands and you don't own "Nude", then you should consider buying it. My 2 favorite tunes are "Mine" and "Gone Away"...both ballads that could have been done by Jane's Addiction or Porno For Pyros. Love On Ice is a bit more glam-rock than Jane's or Porno, which is why I mentioned Mother Love Bone. "Leave Me Alone" is a great up-tempo rocker and will get you going in the morning...kind of like "Been Caught Stealing". I actually don't love every track on "Nude", but Love On Ice created a cool sound (although arguably somewhat derivative) and the band showed signs for great potential. I'm operating under the assumption that they were dropped by Interscope due to poor album sales. (It's important to remember that this album was released when "grunge" was what you almost had to play in order to become commercially successful.) "Nude" may have been a bit too fun and slickly produced, compared to "Nevermind" (by Nirvana), for the sake of example. I believe "Nude" was produced by Rick Parasher, who worked with Alice In Chains, Blind Melon and Temple Of The Dog. While "Nude" isn't "Nothing's Shocking", Love On Ice could have produced some really great material, had they not broken up/been dropped...whichever came first.
