But either way, this is an awesome album, with beautiful songs and haunting vocals. It is a true work of art that indeed shook the music world to its core. Was this review helpful? I listened to Untouchables and I couldn't stand Jonathan Davis' voice. On this album, although he is still not quite melodious, he doesn't sound like he's simply whining in a nasal voice like in his later work. There are a few examples of this far and between (the refrain on Fake, certain parts of Divine), but in later albums, he doesn't do anything except for screeching, which is very hard on the ears. This may have become his signature voice soon thereafter, but I personally don't care for it- as this album shows, Korn does just fine without it. Some highlights are Blind, Clown, Faget, and Shoots and Ladders (the bagpipe solo at the beginning is extremely creative) but Daddy is by far the best song on the album. The depth that Davis shows in his vocals on this song is very powerful, and I could easily imagine him crying in rage during the recording while he sings about being raped as a youth. The rest of the band is also energetic and utterly flawless throughout. There really isn't a single weak song on this album, and no two songs sound exactly the same, which is a problem that many of Korn's contemporaries have. If you like anything else by Korn, you'll definitely love this album, but even if you don't like Korn in general, try it out if you like other artists like Tool, Incubus, Deftones, Glassjaw, and Nirvana. The album is bleak, depressing, and filled with tales of violence and abuse; yet, this is not a bad thing considering that all of their albums thereafter fail to trigger any emotional response from the listener. This is far better than the average Korn. Was this review helpful? I recomend it to any fans of metal, hardcore, thrash, death metal, nu metal, industrial metal, nu metal, even Heavy Metal. This is the album that started Nu Metal and still stands today as their best album. KoRn rules Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 1/29/2004A review of Korn [Explicit] by Stevozjr There are few albums that are this influential. This literally started a fire under the metal worlds @$$. This album is also one of the rawest albums ever too. This album was nothing like anything ever heard before it. Seven string guitars, slap bass, and one angry m****rf****r at the microphone. Different. Very different. Just to ad to that, Shoots and Ladders has a bagpipe intro. This started what is now known as nu metal. And KoRn never fails. No album sounds quite like the others. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 1/4/2004A review of Korn [Explicit] by Anonymous this album is the start of the newest and most publisized genre of metal. before this the biggest metal style was of course speed/thrash metal. the creativity of this record is phenomenal. the somewhat "tortured" vocals of Jon davis complement the slap bass of dog(formerly known as fieldy), the down tuned 7 string guitars of sir headly(head) and james the gorilla(munky) and the drums of wally balljacker(david silveria).<br>the collaboration of the drums of the bass add just as much as the guitars do. I've heard their other 3 albums (Follow the Leader, Issues, Life is Peachy) but I've never had the chance to listen to this one. When I borrowed it from a friend, I quickly stuck in my stereo, and I was completely amazed! This album does NOT sound like their later releases! It's darker, and, maybe, just a little scary. Every song on here is top-notch! "Blind" right away became a fave, but as I listened more and more, it's hard to determine which song is the best. "Daddy" was one of the most emotional songs I've ever heard. We all hear Jonathan's pain and hate in that song, as well as in just about every other song. It's become one of my all-time favorite albums, and it should be one of the best metal albums released. Best nu-metal album ever. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 4 users found this helpful Posted: 9/1/2003A review of Korn [Explicit] by Mali122 This has to be one of KoRn's best ablums of all time. With Head and Munk's hardcore rythmic guitars, sweet sounds of Fieldy's bass, the loud beating of David's drums, and Jonathen yelling in your ears. The CD mainly talks about how people picked on him, him being made fun of because they thought they were better than him, and how he was raped, and his mother didn't belive him and didn't care, the song is called Daddy,(I think by his neighbor) . This CD has a lot of hate and depressing moments. My favorite songs are Blind, Divine, Shoots and Ladders, and my all time favorite song form KoRn, Faget. If your a big fan of KoRn you should buy this CD because this is their best ablum, like I said BUY IT! (you'll never regret it) Was this review helpful?
