Many people were excited for a possible comeback, including me. Being a fan since 'Breakaway', I was pleased to see that she would stray away from the mess that 'My December' was. After hearing the first single, "My Life Would S*ck Without You", I was disappointed. After hearing the full album, I am once again disappointed.
When I heard "My Life Would S*ck Without You", I was disturbed with how hard they were trying to get Kelly back to being a multi platinum seller. The song was generic and unoriginal, and tried to recreate the "Since U Been Gone" phenomenon. It's a decent song, but one would expect better after the superb material she has recorded in the past.
The same can be said about the album: it's nothing groundbreaking, the songs range from unbearable to decent, it's overproduced, and it just tries too hard. This album will not give her the success she and her record label so desperately desire for. This "go as mainstream as possible" strategy will probably backfire, but who knows? Generic, overproduced songs do sell...sadly. Look at Katy Perry and Lady GaGa. I once thought Kelly was above those generic pop singers, but now I am rethinking that.
Kelly -- I hope you fix your mistakes on the next album. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-1 of 1 Per Page |
