Joy Divison's anguish-filled lyrics and dissonant cords are a direct correlation with the lead singer's pain. Tragically, it was not a strong enough outlet, and we will never get to see the greatness that this band was destined to achieve. A true predecessor to the goth-punk-sound that we hear today, although it is often overlooked. A great album to go through the range of emotions with. If you liked Trent Reznor's "Dead Souls" on the "Lost Highway" soundtrack, you will notice that it is a JD cover.

This album rounds up all the early tunes that were a bit difficult to enjoy unless one was prepared to pay collectors' prices. Not necessarily a 'Best of"; which makes it that much more essential for the true fan. New-comers beware, Joy Division was never quite pleasant to the ear and this release doesn't make it much easier, more difficult might be a better way to put it. J.D. is a band that upon an immediate first listen you either love them or hate them and if you find yourself of the latter and a bit un-nerved, please hold on- that means your acquire taste is building up and with this album you get to hear the the evolution of the band transgress right past your very ears. With each tune you will witness the band developing upon their unique sound
