when i first heard this album, i was unsure of wheather or not that i liked it, but i have since learned that first impressions are not always correct, and that you should listen to an album more than once to get the full picture of what the artist is trying to say.it dosent really matter if they have alot of ballads on the album, than the last, its got a great balance of hardcore rock songs and slow quiet ballads, such as right next door to hell, dust and bones, double talking jive, november rain, live and let die and the garden.anyone who pushs this album aside needs to listen to it again and more closely. never judge on album on first apperance because there is always the possibility that you could misunderstand the the artists words. of the twin albums, this one has more loud rock songs.but its a garunteed kick ass album.

Ok, first I havent listened to the whole two albums, but from what Ive heard, and read, is that there are too many ballads, and axl wanting to shift to a more elton john style of music is shameful. Why do you think slash and izzy left? and another thing that someone said that pissed me off is that someone wrote on here that gnr is hair metal. GUNS N ROSES IS NOT HAIR METAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! They pretty much killed hair metal, and that is a good thing. hair metal just talked about having a good time, and looking like a transvestite. GNR talked about real things. The hard songs by guns n roses are the best, too bad the originals didnt stay together and make good HARD rock.

This album rocks from start to finish. People say that there is lots of filler, but there isnt. It is all good. The Garden may take about five or six listens before it doesnt @#$%, but otherwise this album is PERFECT. Many reviews say that Use Your Illusion II is better. How can it be? UYI II has a lot more ballads, not to mention GNRs worst song, My World. There is a conflict of egos and songwriting, but that only enhances how well the songs are played. Izzy wrote too many good songs to list, but there is also room for Axl writing songs like Dead Horse and November Rain. Slash also had a hand in the songwriting. He may not have written many songs here but they really make the record great. His contributions such as Bad Apples, Dont D@mn Me, and my personal favorite, Coma are amazing. Be sure to own this even if Hair Metal isnt your favorite genre.

Following GN'R Lies, the Use Your Illusion series, which was released on two different albums on the same release date, the first album entitled Use Your Illusion I is a strong and powerful album. It is hard to describe the style of the CD, since it has both power ballads, fast hard rock, slow country influinced style work, and some other turns into it. Album started off like a hard rock album typically would with Right Next Door To Hell, then Dust N' Bones, a great re-make of Live and Let Die, and then after that it branches off and hits back and forth. After Live And Let Die comes the original version of Don't Cry, a power ballad in which, shows pure talent and skill on both vocally with Axl and guitaristicly with Slash. Then jumping back into a hard rock with Perfect Crime. However, goes to a more country-influince with You Ain't The First and then back into the hard rock until November Rain, another very powerful ballad in which many consider the music video, the greatest music video ever made. Then we go into The Garden, an odd song that although depicts Madison Square Garden, it is easy to get pulled into the lyrics and feel as though it is a power ballad in which Axl decribes a garden he goes through, atleast that is the feeling of the song. Then more hard rock and finally ends with a huge ballad that is very underrated known as "Coma", which is a whopping 10 minutes and 16 seconds long. However the guitar work and vocals are excellent and if you got 10 minutes and 16 seconds to listen to a badass song, listen to Coma. The overall build of the album is a lot different from Use Your Illusion II which contained mostly power ballads and powerful drawn out songs. Between the two, Use your Illusion I has more variation and some better cuts on it, however Use your Illusion II has more feeling and power overall in to it.

this album has way too much filler. but November Rain, Don't Cry, Live and Let Die and Back of Bitch save the album from being a complete flop. i think guns n roses is a good band but way over rated.

I fell in love with this album after the great November Rain came up to play. Great riff by Slash at the end, and it rules. Axl is amazing on vocals, and the whole song rocks!!! It is apsolutly one of the best GNR songs ever did!!! Live and Let Die is another great intro to an album. While the rest aren't really that great, they have bad words and more. In my opinion, Don't Cry (Original) is the weakest tune GNR ever recorded. But I apsolutly love this CD because of the greatest November Rain song ever heard, and is called to be one of my all time favorite songs.

Use Your Illusion is too overblown to be great. Yet, there are a number of good songs over the two discs. The band, and the public, would have been better served by cutting down the set to a single disc. My personal opinion is that II is better than I, but only because my three favorite songs are on II. Conversely, I is more even and balanced than II. The entire trouble with the Use Your Illusion discs can be summed up by one song, Coma. Like the discs, it is too long, too often pointless and often is just showing off. The real pity is that Use Your Illusion is the last release of original material by G 'n' R and the band had the potential to challenge Aerosmith for the title of Greatest American Rock Band.

Guns N' Roses @#$%ing @#$%s more than any other band on the planet. Slash is a terrible guitarist who plays pentatonic scales quickly to decieve people into believing he is a talented guitarist. Axle Rose is just a @#$%ing douchebag with a terrible voice. If you want to listen to a good guitarist listen to some Danny Gatton.

After the Appetite and Lies it was like -what's gonna happen now?
USE YOUR ILLUSION is an example of how music should be and how rock IS!

The yellow album encapsulates Izzy stradlin and Axl's anger and perfect voice -and not to mention Slash' guitar matching Hendrix!

The 2nd album encapsultates AXL's drive for ballads in Estranged and Slash's hard driven rock in Locomotive.

The 2 albums compared are different - and thank god... GNR shows us that they are capable of making hard n' dirty rock on the first with November rain and don't cry standing out -and the 2nd for the more sophisticated rock.

Too bad the guys couldn't work it out back then.. But they made history and should never be forgotten for what they were -the biggest rock band ever like Mick jagger and Rolling Stones.
If ever again.. this band really seperated the men from the boys. Metallica even faided compared to these guys live.
(Ulrich from Metallica knew the impact factor)

Rolling Stone magazine only gave this album 4 stars and many critize that the albums were not put into one good new appetite album -i personally can't see the problem here.. I wouldn't for the world miss any of these songs. Yes there are fillers.. but keep in mind that this band was so talented that even fillers are outstanding.

I have never been so touched than the guitar from slash and the so powerful voice of AXL.

So if you're sick of NU-metal wanna be lovers -go for Guns N' Roses and smell the dirt, the dispear, the drugs, the abuse, the alcohol the GUNS N' ROSES
WHEN I FIRST GOT THIS ONE, I COULD NOT STOP LISTENING TO IT. THE GUNNERS SECOND EFFORT WAS AWESOME. DESPITE THE CREATIVE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE MEMBERS, IT WAS STILL A MINDBLOWER. ";NOVEMBER RAIN"; AND ";DON'T CRY"; WERE POWER BALLADS. ";LIVE AND LET DIE"; WAS JUST AS GOOD AS PAUL MCCARTNEY'S VERSION. IT WAS A GREAT FOLLOW-UP TO APPETITE. IT WILL LAST FOREVER IN MY MIND.
