when i got this album it wasnt what i expected it was totally differnet. like the songs on the album are all about going out with girls getting dumped and strung aside, the songs when i listened them were easy to understand and when i red the lyrics i found something out but ill write that in another green day review
band members-
billie joe armstrong-lead guitar,vocals
mike dirnt-bass,backing vocals
al sorbante-drums
final thought-
not bad for there first album, well what do you expect for a fist time punk band, the record company that made green days first album was called look out records.
i rated this album 3 stars because i wasnt brilliant and it wasnt bad but it was ok for a first album Was this review helpful? Since it was the first album Green Day released, it sounds quite different from the likes of American Idiot. This was one of my favourite albums, because of its uniqueness. My favourite track off this album Why Do You Want Him. Give it a listen! Was this review helpful? I like all of the new stuff but i wanted to know what came before they were big. I realized i liked the older stuff i didnt know (Kerplunk, 1039) almost better than the albums i did know. THis album is great its a lot of straight up punk songs that if you listen to enough, almost the same style as songs on Dookie. The older drummer isnt as good as Tre but doesnt have any flaws. Mikes bass is VERY impressive he has a few solos on this album. GREAT ALBUM! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 12/20/2005A review of 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours by Anonymous this is Green Days Indie Rock album for Lookout! records. the first time you listen through it, you know when your skimming for a song that sounds good, you dont like it. but, once you sit down and listen to it, you realize that its the same Green Day you know and love! the guitar does sound more like the olde punk three-chord riffs mostly but, the bass is good old Mike Dirnt and the drums (speaking from the viewpoint of a drummer) still had that same Green Day rhythem! you will be listing to this for a long tiem to come and find yourself coming back to it alot! (like me) then you will love this CD, just all the other ones its very good, there isnt really even one song that i dont like, but remember i am a huge green day fan... and someone said that this is almost like a diary, it basically is, and id be pretty spursed if you can't relate to at least one thing on the CD :) Was this review helpful? Sign In 10 out of 13 users found this helpful Posted: 9/13/2005A review of 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours by daveeasy Green Day has came such a far way since they were Sweet Children.. Watching them grow up, literally since they had taken the name Green Day, this was the first album out, and still the most emotional filled album, lyrically.. If you like GD, this is like hearing what they were all about.... Was this review helpful? Although it's not like their later stuff (i.e: Nimrod, Warning), it's still a wonderful album. Personally, I think it's their best, one of the few CDs where I love every single song. Definitely worth the money. Was this review helpful? The recordings arent that great of a quality, but the songs are still rather good. The lyrics are all about very real things, almost like diary entries. Good album to own if you are a huge Green Day fan, otherwise, you may be disapointed. Was this review helpful? Billie Joe seems to put a lot of the things he was feeling as a teen in this album. Songs about social anxiety, love, heartbreak, and smoking weed. Billie, Mike, and John seem to play so damn good together in this album. Tre is a better drummer, but gotta give John his props. You will never stop listening to this album. I have had it for ten years, and still listen to it atleast once a week. Was this review helpful? Its the best cd they ever made. Its a punk/pop cd with a little ska in it. I think anyone who listens to this cd would love it. Most old Green Day is better than the new stuff.
