By now those familiar with Dylan know the story. Although he denies it, this album is most likely inspired by his crumbling marriage. Although nothing is blatantly confessed, this is the closest Dylan ever came to being emotionally connected with his audience. Life is sad, there's almost no way to escape it and Dylan wasn't invincible to it so everyone was able to feel where he was coming from. Nothing comes easy, especially relationships and these songs are all about that. The diffuculty of loving someone and having that love returned. Melancholy, angry, hopeful, every emotion and stage of a traumatic situation is here. There's humor and hope alongside the bitterness and denial but it never coincides, it all works perfectly and no one could have expressed it as well as Dylan. This should be in every Dylan fans collection as well as every person who's had their heart ripped out and stomped on. If you don't know how to express love and love lost, you'll find it here.

First of all, previous reviewer Jeremy Rothschild is incorrect in his comment that this was Dylan's first album with a band. Many of his albums since "Bringing it all Back Home" were with a band, either studio musicians or guests or The Band (remember them?). Big gaffe Jeremy, but you are 100% right on your review. This album is one of Dylan's best. The lyrics and music just blend together in a timeless way. Every track is worthwhile. Just go out and buy it; it is one of Dylan's best, and that is saying a lot!

This is the first album Bob put out with a band. All his previous albums were just him, and an occasional backup musician on a track or two. The effect is a completely new sound: fresh and vibrant, immediately evident with the classic (opening) track "Tangled up in Blue." Though the music is wonderful, and some of the most important music of its decade, the album itself is slightly incoherent, and if you've read some of my other reviews, you'd know that for me, that causes really big problems. Granted its inconsistency, it's still an extremely good album due to the splendiness of the songs, and still receives a full rating, that's how good the music is... Buy this album! You won't regret it.

Although this is not my favorite Dylan album, it is undoutedly his best. As the bootleg series of albums reveals, this was a wonderful endeavor before it was shelved and re-recorded. Had it not been it would have been a monster. But, with that additional effort, it was molded into being not only Dylan's best, but one of the best ever. One review I've read calls you to imagine coming home from the record store with this album in your hands, unwrapping it and letting the needle settle into ";Tangled Up in Blue."; What an experience that must have been; hearing this album for the first time. Rest assured, that the warmth of the album can never be matched by a CD, but that won't stop you from listening again and again.

This album released in 1975 I beleive is Dylans finest . An album that takes you on an emotional ride of highs and lows.First listnening to this album in what may have been much the same frame of mind as the man himself,i can only recommend that it is listened to fully and with maximum concentration, after which it will be revealed that this is the mastepiece it deserves to be known as . Not an album for a party as it is so introspective, but to listen to in a pleasant type of melancholy, by oneself,i cannot recommend this album more highly, as it is my all time favourite.
