Im glad RATM tossed out their singer, and signed on with CC. I fell in love with Audioslaves first album the minute I turned it on, and its like love all over again with Out of Exile. Its just good music!
Rock on! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 12/21/2005A review of Out of Exile by blanked3 This album starts out with...a BOMB! This first four songs are some of the best ever written from chris and rage against the machine. The guitar and the drums, this band has it all. I mean song 4 is proof of this statement, anyways, great 2nd cd, im glad they were able to live up to thier name Was this review helpful? Maybe that's why I had such high hopes for this one. That's why I was so disappointed by this one at first. But after giving it a few listens, I realized that it's still a great album, even though it's nothing like the first one.
On their debut disc, Audioslave sounded just like Rage Against The Machine meets Soundgarden. That turned out to be a great thing. But that is not the case on Out of Exile. On this album, Audioslave is making songs that sound like nobody else. Chris Cornell is still writing abstract lyrics that are such fun to listen to. Tom Morello actually tones down his funkiness on guitar, and sounds a bit more conventional. He still has his signature moments, but he doesn't really do much of what got everyone's attention back when he was in RATM and on Audioslave's first album. Still, he shows he can play good music without playing crazy music. As for Brad and Tim, they are a solid backbone for this band, playing some of the best beats in their careers.
In summary, since they already had your attention, Audioslave has now released an album that really shows what they are all about. Here's hoping they continue to do this for a few more years. Not totally moving away from the hard hitting rock and roll sound from the first LP, "Out Of Exile" presents the listener with a different side of their writing and music playing talents while still ripping out the raw and raunchy sound that made "Audioslave" such a great listen. Both Morello and Cornell have proven their musical abilities are out of any structural bounds and touch on all different variations of music. After listening to this LP and being famliar with the first Audioslave LP, the listener should definitely agree that the members of Audioslave are definitely "Out Of Exile." Was this review helpful? You'll notice right away that it is not as wild and raw as their first but it is just as good if not better. It really seems like they came together as a group and found their own sound. The whole album (not just a few songs) is very very well done. There is a wide variation from the hard chorus of The Worm to the mellow and very satisfying Doesen't Remind Me (one of the highlights of the album). The whole album is a very good buy and it is somthing that even those who aren't fans of Audioslave, Rage Against the Machine, or Soundgarden should consider. Was this review helpful? Impressed with the grinding, hard, and equally melodious pieces-- Your Time Has Come did not disappoint when previewed.
At first listen, Out of Exile seemed like it was missing the essence of the full on assault the first album possessed. But, listening to it the 2nd, 3rd time, etc. what you hear is an album of a band that's really "come into their own". Although the aura of this album is "softer", more melodic, and challenging, it does NOT disappoint. Be Yourself, Doesn't Remind Me, The Worm--the music and the band unapologetically emerge with a sense of truth and self.
Lesson Learned: Don't compare this album with the first, don't look at it as some blasee RATM or Soundgarden collaboration because Out of Exile stands on its own. Was this review helpful? Audioslave is as good in concert as on CD. Buy this Album!!! Was this review helpful? Anyone who thought that they were a one album band should pick this up and crank it. #1 zero could be the best song Audioslave has ever done. It could even be better than any Soundgarden and Rage Song. Truly amazing. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 5/29/2005A review of Out of Exile by bma5610 "Out of Exile" takes Audioslave to a place much different from their self-titled first album. Where their first album thrived on Tom Morello's sound effects and Tim Commerford's throbbing bass lines, "Out of Exile" puts Chris Cornell's excellent vocals in the spotlight. While there are a few tracks reminiscent of Rage, "Out of Exile" has overall a similar sound to Cornell's solo album "Euphoria Morning" and late Soundgarden. The album is very easy to listen to, with no need to skip through boring or uninspired tracks. However, Cornell's typically mystical lyrics are occassionally marred by plain or clumsy phrases ("Heaven's dead when you get sad" for example). Despite this, it is an excellent album with just enough of the old to satisfy purists but it's a far cry from a rehash of their first album. Worth picking up. Was this review helpful? GOOD luck to the band. Audio Slave rocks Was this review helpful? It's easy to see how the band has changed, and is continuing to change. The track "Your Time Has Come" is perhaps TOO similar to the song "Cochise," but other than that, it is a top notch album.
