Most groups could have easily traveled the self pity, angry at the world bit, but in the face of death, the Arcade Fire manage to construct 10 songs of intricate beauty, bliss, and cathartic joy. Beginning with the epic Neighborhood suite, the album opens with Tunnels. Its tinkling piano notes at the start, coupled with light strings, signal the beginning of something glorious. As the music progresses, the layers upon which singer Win Butler finds his voice are never forced, but they are organic and rich, equipped soaring piano melodies and distorted guitar interludes that lead to a musical explosion that bustles with electricity. The beauty of these songs, along with the rest of the album, is nothing ever feels out of place. It simply works in its own favor and the music takes its own heart rending course through the emotional pallette that we all experience in times of loss. Whether they deal with manic joy, or crushing depression, this music catalogues humanity at best. With 15 people singing in unison like a choir of angels set to the accompaniment of harps, french horns, and strings in Wake Up, or the infectious melodies found within Rebellion, its no surprise why Funeral works so well. It is not a focus on death, but a celebration of life in the face of death, moving on and evolving into something much greater. Much like the music that transcends the tired boundaries of an industry that favors repetition and dull subject matter, the Arcade Fire manage to instill passion, brilliance, and love into an art that everyone can relate to. While the band may not be everyones cup of tea, their attention to detail and undeniable passion for music cannot be denied, and for this reason we should be thankful.

This is Music ! If youre tired of pop-punk , cloned rap and re-hashed rock give this album a try . The Arcade Fire are the most original and best group to hit the sonic airwaves in years . Funeral is an album in the true sense ,the neighborhood being the central theme with songs full insightful feelings. The vocals of Win Butler take a bit of getting used to , but his phasing and the background vocals are superb ! All of the songs have a wonderful ebb and flow , which in todays music of loops and repitition is rare indeed. If you want full sounding music buy this album . If you want the same old stuff get Green Day.

The title tells all. It's indeed one of the best alternative rock albums of the year. Let alone best album of the year. It's that good.

This is a fantastic Album...all of it! Great to listen to and make your day start off and keep going well! Feel good, high energy music. I had to listen to it a couple times to get the ball rolling, but since then it has been added to my favorites. Love this album!

There is not a song on this album that I skip over. From start to finish, amazing in texture, vocals, lyrics, layering. Some great song writing, and very effective use of style. I would recommend this album to anyone looking for something refreshingly original and fun.

WOW! I have hated music until most recently. Finding, The Coral, The Zutons and And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead....., you would think I was in heavan and it was over, BUT.... Now I found The Arcade Fire, absolutely one of the best albums, can I still say that, I have EVER heard. I do think there is some hope for the music industry, thanks guys and gals, for the new insperations....... Donkey Poll
