The beats were so smooth but still gritty and street. Phife stepped his game up for this trip and Q-Tip was on point as usual. Ali is beast behind the boards! This album gets my vote for Top 10 hip-hop album of all time. Was this review helpful? I loved this album when it first came out, and still enjoy it today. The lyrics and beats are timeless. Just about every song still have relevance 12 years later. Good thing about the Tribe is that they have originality; something that is severely lacking in today's world of Hip Hop. If you are looking for a change of pace album, this is it. Everyone should look past the hype and check it out, I don't care what your background, profession, or previous musical affiliation...I, for example, am a white government contractor and have previously been a substitute teacher and I have found that even people who look like they only have Garth Brooks albums STILL get down to this. ANYONE can groove to Tribe's jazz rhythms...HAGALO! Was this review helpful? Sign In 6 out of 7 users found this helpful Posted: 5/27/2002A review of Midnight Marauders by FlyingB This is one of my personal all time favs. The beats, melodies, lyrics flow like a natural stream. The transition in this album reaches everybody. Electric Relaxation, Award Tour, Steve Biko, The Chase all are songs anyone could jam to. There is not a bad song on here. The soul and jazz can not be missed in this. This album reached more people and made a major mark for Tribe than previous. It brought Tribe more into the main stream light and opened up people's ears and then their minds. No matter who you are, yellow, brown, white, Puerto Rican or Haitian, you can "Get Down" with these boys from the Zulu Nation. This white boy did. Sample it. You'll buy it. Do not be afraid to diversify. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-5 of 5 Per Page |
