Recorded as her star was on the rise, Whoopi Goldberg -- Original Broadway Show Recording is an excellent snapshot of Goldberg's early standup routines, capturing her characters "Fontaine," "Surfer Chick," "Crippled Lady" and "Little Girl." While some of the material has dated slightly, Goldberg's characterizations remain impressive, especially since the humor has an edge of pathos that makes it cut deeper than most of her contemporaries.
