Critic's Review:
This various-artists compilation, Passing Strange, as released by Broadvista Music, generally aims at "directions in electronic music," but it more specifically aims at the contemplative side of electronic music. This is not a recording that, like a lot of various electronic music recordings, focuses on academic and intellectual bleeps and blurps that are loosely, usually very loosely, defined as music; but instead this a compilation that focuses on a variety of sounds that would usually be classified as electronic ambient, atmospheric, or space music. This compilation features the works of seven artists with seven distinct electronic sounds, including: John Pemble, Jeff Karsin, the Autumn Project, Used and Left to Rust, Brian Parnham, Kirk Watson, {Biff Johnson, and David Hastings. This is an interesting recording that truly has its pulse on the future of electronic music, and it really puts a lot of these relatively unknown artists out there for others to enjoy. This is an excellent, interesting, and enlightening recording, and one that is certainly worth a listen. ~ Matt Borghi, All Music Guide
