Critic's Review:
Close Harmony represents the purest distillation of the Chordettes' aesthetic, shearing away all accompaniment and artifice to shine the spotlight solely on the group's remarkably ethereal and intimate harmonies. Although Svengali arranger Archie Bleyer still favors a sentimental approach rooted in postwar vocal pop, his adherence to a minimalist production ethos guarantees that the listener's focus never drifts away from what's truly important -- and the Chordettes' vocals never disappoint, with a sophistication and complexity that lend grace to songs as banal as "Making Love Ukulele Style" and "Watermelon Weather." [The Japanese label Solid's 2008 paper-sleeve CD reissue appends eight bonus cuts, including the classic "Lollipop," "Go Away from My Window," and "I Told a Lie."] ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
