Critic's Review:
Showoff's pop punk debut is irresistible -- to a point. The young Chicago band has the strident vocals, the martial beats accelerating into warp-speed, the pink hair-it's punk-by-numbers. Nonetheless, "Second Chance" is a great piece of new wave/old school songwriting as is the melodic "Someone" which rests firmly in power pop/jangle territory till the grunge guitar-grind begins; "Tell Me" is solid hard rock. Rock purists will have to concede the band has a knack for the form of music that once changed rock and roll. No matter Showoff's members weren't born when punk hit -- like Green Day they get its spirit -- it's just that their version is bubblegum. ~ Denise Sullivan, All Music Guide
