Critic's Review:
Not just your routine or typical mix album, Large Professor Mix CD represents a complete retrospective of Large Professor's twin careers as a recording artist and producer-for-hire laid out as an uninterrupted, radio-broadcast mix set by Mr. Sinista and Crossphader. The pair of DJs serve up healthy portions of the Main Source catalog -- from quintessential Breaking Atoms songs like "Looking at the Front Door," "Just Hangin' Out" (in its remixed version), and the posse-cut "Live at the Barbeque" to non-album classics "Fakin' the Funk" and the group's Brand New Heavies collaboration "Bonafide Funk -- with an equally meat-and-potatoes helping from the Professor's official 2002 solo debut, 1st Class, and even a couple previously unreleased recordings from the artist's limbo years, many originally intended for his unreleased early-'90s record The LP. There is also a long list of tracks created or remixed for cronies like Mobb Deep, Nas, Intelligent Hoodlum, Busta Rhymes, Gang Starr, Chi-Ali, Slick Rick, Akinyele, Apache, Common, and Organized Konfusion, and the DJs even toss in obscure gems like Powerule's "Gots ta Get This" and the Jaz's "Hypocritters" (though they miss Diamond D.'s great "Freestyle [Yo, That's That Shit]"). The 74-minute CD, released conjointly by online retailers Sandbox Automatic and HipHopSite.com as a limited-promotional bonus with initial purchases of 1st Class, is a nifty way to spin through a discography of incomparable richness matched only by a handful of other rap producers. ~ Stanton Swihart, All Music Guide
