Critic's Review:
Jack Teagarden's final recording, performed less than four months before his death, finds the trombonist/vocalist in particularly high spirits at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Mr. T. was reunited not only with his brother (trumpeter Charlie) and sister (pianist Norma), but his mother, who performs a couple of ragtime piano solos. The strong supporting cast, in addition to the many Teagardens, features clarinetist Pee Wee Russell, baritonist Gerry Mulligan, and pianist Joe Sullivan. The two sets included on this historical CD are filled with blues, standards, and Dixieland, the results of Jack Teagarden's two sets at Monterey. This important and enjoyable music is proof that the great trombonist went out on top. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
