Comprehensive Guide to Anger Management Composed in Drop D

Critics' Reviews

amg review
This excellently-titled compilation is not, in fact, comprehensive -- it ignores the 1997 EP Further entirely -- but it's nonetheless an excellent overview of the peculiar career of Louisville art-punks Guilt. Kicking off with a set of 1991 demos by Stepdown, the otherwise-unrecorded parent group of Guilt, the 25-track compilation neatly summarizes their increasing complexity, moving from fairly simple, traditional hardcore sturm und drang into a far more complex and varied post-rock assault akin to the likes of their Louisville compatriots Slint and Elliott. A Comprehensive Guide to Anger Management Composed in Drop D also contains the Synesthesia EP, and the Bob Weston-produced Bardstown Ugly Box in full (minus the hidden bonus track at the end of the latter album), along with two previously unreleased bonus tracks. ~ Stewart Mason, Rovi
