Dom Cortese is a consummate session accordionist, appearing on most of the Command and Time records made in the 1960s for consumers (or salesmen) intent on showing off the miracle of stereo. On his solo records, Cortese remains in the company of his fellow Command "all-star" session men: Tony Mottola, Phil Bodner, Harry Breuer, Phil Kraus, and Bob Rosengarden.
Accordion Italy makes fine accompaniment to a spaghetti dinner, but there are at least two reasons to treat it also as foreground music. One, the "stereo action" effect is brilliant, as one expects from Time or Command. Two, "Guaglione" and "La Dolce Vita" are every bit as swaggering and lusty as the well-known Perez Prado and Nino Rota treatments (tremendous versions for accordion, at least). ~ Tony Wilds, All Music Guide
