American Originals

amg review
Columbia's 1989 collection American Originals serves up the 10 basics of David Houston's '60s peak -- including "Almost Persuaded," "My Elusive Dreams," "I Do My Swinging at Home" and "Mountain of Love" -- with little frills or fuss. The sequencing is not chronological but given the similar nature of Houston's hits that doesn't really matter and the songs flow nicely anyway. So, it's a good, basic collection, but it went out of print in the early '90s and it has since been supplanted by other Houston collection, including Collectables' Almost Persuaded: The Very Best of David Houston, which replicates the entirity of American Originals in its first ten tracks. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine ~ Tom Roland, Rovi
