A double CD of 28 rock-steady tracks produced by Dodd during the late '60s. Most of these were very obscure; the only well-known names are organist Jackie Mittoo and a young Niney The Observer, recording as Winston Holness. A few of the cuts are little more than basic instrumental grooves, but mostly this is top-notch, and fairly diverse, rock-steady. The best attributes of the style are captured in the easy, shuffling grooves, ethereal organs, and dreamy horn lines that anchor nearly all of the songs. The tracks featuring vocal harmony groups make the connection between early reggae and American soul music explicit. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
