Critic's Review:
A Spanish language record of famous folk songs, Mexican Folk Songs is a record with an aura of romance and happy-go-lucky living. Chago Rodrigo plays classical guitar and sings these songs with a carefree and enlightening tone. One does not have to speak English to get the vibes from these songs, though it may prove a hindrance to the listener's enjoyment. The record features the lonesome "A la Orilla del Palmar," the soulful "La Maleguena," and the good-time "Cielto Cindo" ("Ay ay ay ay!" -- you know it). A light and charming record, this is great Sunday morning listening. ~ Zachary Curd, All Music Guide
