Carter-Lewis Story

Critics' Reviews

amg review
This 26-song compilation features material recorded from 1961-71 by half a dozen acts that featured the duo as their core, most notably the Ivy League, The Flowerpot Men, and just simply Carter-Lewis, which was their moniker on their first seven singles. These 14 songs, cut between 1961-64 (all included on this CD), are arguably the most appealing of this set. At times unbearably cloying (as on their U.K. Top 30 hit "Your Momma's Out Of Town"), at their most formidable, as on "Easy To Cry" and "Sweet And Tender Romance," the duo managed some respectable, gutsy Merseybeat. And yes, the two cuts graced by Jimmy Page's presence are present. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi
