Shopgirl [Original Motion Picture Score]

Critics' Reviews

amg review
The bittersweet romantic comedy is often a graveyard for sentimental throwaway tracks from the likes of Phil Collins and Elton John. Composer Barrington Pheloung (Hilary and Jackie) breathes new life into the genre with his emotional and elegant score for the Steve Martin-penned Shopgirl. Pheloung, a versatile craftsman who has found success in theater, ballet, and even computer games, capably fleshes out the age-old story of a dysfunctional love triangle with a subtle mix of strings, marimba, and vibraphone that cradles the underlying themes of deception and unattainable romance permeating Martin's clever and bittersweet script. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
