by Daynah Burnett for MSN Music

Boy bands are a beloved pop music tradition with a rich history of producing some serious breakout talent. The Beatles, the original boy band, spawned meteoric careers for its former members, who continue to release albums today.

With boy-band sensation One Direction's new record, "Midnight Memories," ready to drop on Nov. 25, we've yet to find out who 1D's big breakout star will be (though our money's on Harry Styles), but we can find clues by looking back through the stars who broke free of their boy-band chains to carve out respectable careers – after getting all that hair gel and choreographed pelvic-thrusting out of their systems, of course.

See if you can match the star to his boy-band beginning, then click through to Bing to find out whether you're right!
