Talk to Adele even briefly and you notice she frequently punctuates her sentences with one word: "amazing." And with good reason: The past year has been nothing short of extraordinary for the 20-year-old.

In the past 12 months, the British singer's debut, "19," came in at No. 1 in the United Kingdom, bolstered by her confessional lyrics and soulful, jazzy singing. With most eyes turned to Duffy and Leona Lewis when the Grammy nominations were announced Dec. 3, Adele swooped in and nabbed three nominations in the top four categories, and a quartet of noms overall.

Her nominations didn't draw a collective, "Who?" But even Adele admits she was surprised at the nominations, because her fame in the United Kingdom has far outstripped her success stateside. In fact, she endearingly admits that she only Googled the results to see if her girl crush and fellow Brit Academy graduate Lewis had been nominated.

MSN Music: How did you hear about your Grammy nominations in December?

Adele: I was home in England. It was the day before I was flying out to L.A. [to] play a show with John Mayer at the Nokia Theatre. And I was told that I had a shot, but it was a really long shot because not a lot of people know about me in America up until [my October appearance] on "Saturday Night Live." ... I started Googling because I love Leona Lewis and thought she'd be nominated for everything, and then my phone started buzzing and I thought, "Oh my God, I've been nominated."

I had a million e-mails, and Perez Hilton told me I'd been nominated. He e-mailed me; he was there at the announcement ... My mom was with me because she always stays with me the night before I go away. It was really amazing and my mom left all these Post-its around the house [that said], "Oh my God, four Grammys." It was really exciting!

Is she going to be your date for the Grammys?

Probably not.
