Though Katrina and Rita are gone, there's still a great deal of work to be done to help repair the damage they caused. In conjunction with the generous artists listed below, MSN Music continues its commitment to helping with hurricane relief efforts by offering multiple opportunities to contribute to a host of charitable organizations by downloading great music. Keep checking back throughout the month: As more and more artists pitch in, we'll put their contributions on this page.
Any Other Day WYCLEF JEAN featuring NORAH JONESĀ "ANY OTHER DAY"
Two huge stars with wildy divergent styles converge on this unique collaboration that matches Jones' piano jazz roots with the former Fugee's funky imperative. Proceeds benefit American Red Cross and Americares.
Dixie Chicks DIXIE CHICKS, "I HOPE"
The twangy trio who proved country music could be outspoken and commercial at the same time return with "I Hope," a beautiful song from their forthcoming CD, available now as a single to benefit Habitat for Humanity.
Sugarland/Mercury Nashville SUGARLAND "STAND BACK UP"
Atlanta country trio Sugarland first made a dent on the country charts last year with the single "Baby Girl." Their 2004 debut disc, "Twice the Speed of Life," continues to spawn massive hits. "Stand Back Up" is a quietly committed, assured statement of resurgence, and it's taken on a whole new meaning as Gulf Coast communities begin rebuilding from the ravages of Katrina.
Fats Domino
Basin Street Records
THE VERY BEST OF NEW ORLEANS MUSIC (PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE)
MSN Music has compiled two playlists that highlight the rich legacy of New Orleans music, past, present and future. The first consists of essential tracks from the birthplace of jazz, including work from beloved artists like Fats Domino, Louis Armstrong, Harry Connick Jr. and the Neville Brothers.
The second highlights the catalog of Basin Street Records, a contemporary New Orleans record label whose offices and stock have been hit hard by the hurricane. The Basin Street playlist features lesser-known artists like Los Hombres Calientes, Kermit Ruffins and Jon Cleary. You may not know their music now, but it's just as much a part of the fabric of New Orleans as the classics on the essentials playlist.
American Red Cross DONATE DIRECTLY TO THE RED CROSS
In addition, we encourage everyone to donate what they can to the Red Cross or other charities. Thanks from everyone here at MSN Music.
