By Jonathan Zwickel Special to MSN Music
Who are the new and developing artists that curious fans should seek out? MSN
Music contributor Jonathan Zwickel surveys the new year's release schedule and
flags some names to watch, including fresh faces and unsung veterans.
Andrew Bird Singer-songwriters with guitars are
over. Say hello to Andrew Bird, singer-songwriter with guitar, violin, theremin,
and a warbling whistle to rival his namesake. A onetime fiddler for swing
revivalists Squirrel Nut Zippers, Bird has earned praise from the
NPR set for droll, sophisticated, occasionally overambitious solo albums as well
as from the indie elite for his virtuosic live performances. "Noble Beast," released Jan. 20, is more modest than
previous efforts, revealing the relaxed confidence of a major talent ready for
his close-up. (Image: Retna)
