Lots of great pop and rock has come from the land Down Under, ranging from
self-deprecating novelties to gripping environmental anthems, cheeky pop to
avant-garde rock. With a nod to MSN's exclusive online concert from New
Zealand's Crowded House, we invite you to have a g'day, mate, by visiting some
of our favorite musical Aussies and Kiwis.
CROWDED HOUSE: Australia and New Zealand figure equally in
the genesis of Crowded House, founded in Melbourne in 1986 by Neil Finn, center,
with fellow Split Enz alumnus Paul Hester, left, and Nick Seymour. The original
trio garnered immediate success with their self-titled debut album and its
international single hit, "Don't Dream It's Over," and later recruited Finn's
older brother and Split Enz principal Tim for an early '90s lineup. Disbanded in
the mid-'90s, Crowded House reformed in the wake of Hester's death in 2005.
