The daughter of a North Carolina preacher, piano mistress Tori Amos' first foray into pop music was with a rather
tacky quasi-metal band called Y Kant Tori Read. Bucking the then-popular crunchy '90s
grunge sounds, her debut solo album, 1992's "Little Earthquakes," found a healthy niche market. Her
follow-up, "Under the Pink," catapulted Amos into stardom with hits
such as "Cornflake Girl" and "God."
